The Righteous Indignation Project

A JEWISH CALL FOR JUSTICE

Campaigns

During the summer and fall of 2008, the RI staff is working with groups nationwide to organize non-partisan voter engagement activities, progressive faith media actions, and community building events around the country. We need your help!

Goals:

  • Strengthen the growing Jewish justice movement
  • Strengthen connections between progressive Jewish communities and other faith communities, interfaith groups, and other grassroots social justice and environmental organizations
  • Make issues of social justice and environmental responsibility a central part of the national discourse during this historic election season

To meet these goals, RI activists are undertaking a number of initiatives listed below.  Check the list of partner organizations to see if there is an RI partner group already organizing activities in your area. If you would like to organize an RI event in your area, please contact Margie Klein.

Activities:

  1. July — October - Voter Engagement
In coordination with several Jewish, interfaith, and secular organizations, RI will hold non-partisan voter registration and education events in various cities across the country.  A list of events will be available soon on our events page
  2. September 10 — 16 - "Fighting Poverty with Faith" Action Week
RI will join national faith-based organizations for a week of action on domestic poverty in an attempt to elevate this issue in the 2008 election debate.  Together we will urge the presidential candidates to commit to offering a major anti-poverty initiative in their first 100 days of office.  This week of action will include a national kickoff call with Senator John Edwards, opportunities for congregational education, service learning, and creative interfaith media events. View/download our interfaith media event "how to" guide.
  3. October - Presidential Debate Watch Parties
In partnership with American Jewish World Service (AJWS) and AVODAH, RI is helping to organize presidential debate parties in several cities across the country. These events will bring together a larger cross section of Jews in their 20s and 30s to connect, discuss the election, and explore the relationship between our Jewish identities and our political commitments. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in follow-up election activities and other social justice projects.
  4. October 29 — November 4 - Voter Mobilization
RI is helping local Jewish groups organize voter mobilization activities in partnership with interfaith groups and other grassroots social justice and environmental organizations. In addition, RI will be providing small travel stipends in a number of cities for Jewish groups to engage in voter mobilization and media work in areas where the candidates are focusing their attention, calling on them to focus on social justice and the environmental issues. To apply for a scholarship for your group, please contact Margie Klein.
  5. Non-Partisan Voter Guide
The RI staff is creating a non-partisan voter guide designed to stimulate conversation on several core justice issues, based on various classical and contemporary Jewish teachings.
