About the Project
The Righteous Indignation Project (RI) seeks to mobilize progressive Jews to voice social justice and environmental issues as religious and moral priorities in the 2008 election season and beyond. The RI staff is working with more than a dozen Jewish, interfaith, and other grassroots social justice and environmental groups to strengthen the growing Jewish justice movement and the progressive religious community in the United States.
The RI project has three components:
THE BOOK: Righteous Indignation: A Jewish Call for Justice, published by Jewish Lights, is a groundbreaking anthology featuring leading Jewish activists, intellectuals, and organizational leaders. The book includes 40 essays offering Jewish responses to a wide range of critical issues, from immigration reform to global warming to LGBT rights. Find out more about the book, the contributors, and the RI book tour at righteousindignation.info/book.
THE CONFERENCE: On May 4—6th, 2008 over 150 Jewish activists and leaders from across the country joined together in Boston for Jewish text study, organizing and media training, and relationship building. Speakers and teachers included: Ruth Messinger, Dr. Leonard Fein, Rabbi Jonah Pesner, Dr. Aryeh Cohen, and Rabbi Jill Jacobs. Our resources page include both Jewish texts and organizing materials from the conference.
THE CAMPAIGN: During the Summer and Fall of 2008 the RI staff is working with groups nationwide to organize non-partisan voter engagement activities, progressive faith media actions, and community-building events across the country. Find out more about how you can get involved at righteousindignation.info/action.
