Fighting Poverty With Faith Week of Action - Sample outreach email to faith and grassroots groups

I working on an exciting interfaith social justice effort with INSERT PARTNER GROUPS, and I'm writing to invite your organization to take part.

On the week of September 11th-17th, over 20 major faith-based organizations around the country will be joining together a week of action on domestic poverty in an attempt to elevate this issue in the 2008 election debate.  During this week, local groups nationwide will urge the candidates to commit to presenting a major anti-poverty initiative in their first 100 days of office, and asking them to outline what they would do, if elected, to address poverty in the United States.  This week will include opportunities for congregational education and service around poverty, and creative interfaith media events to pressure the candidates to make poverty a priority.

Here in YOUR CITY, we hope to organize a creative anti-poverty event that includes members from a diverse array of religious and grassroots groups.  As part of that event, we hope to get media attention through DESCRIBE EVENT, E.G. a creative interfaith prayer vigil featuring faith leaders and representatives of grassroots organizations, all calling for stronger anti-poverty policies in this country.  At our first planning meeting, we discussed the possibility of focusing on INSERT YOUR FOCUS, E.G. the dangerous referendum that would ban income tax and cut the state budget by 40%, and using that issue to highlight a number of related poverty issues, such as hunger, housing, and education. 

We would love it if your organization would join our effort.  We need help with planning and turnout, and with recruiting speakers.  Please let me know if you or someone from your organization would be interested in helping with this important event.  Our next planning meeting will be the week of GIVE DATE.  If you are interested in attending that, please let me know, and we will include you in our scheduling process.
