Instructions: Email or fax this 5 days before the event. Then follow up with a phone call, asking if the reporter is on deadline, then pitching the event using the "what" and "why," then asking for confirmation. Call again the day before the event, too.
Interfaith Voter Registration Drive:
2008 Election Brings Together Diverse Groups

What: Building on the Righteous Indignation conference, YOUR GROUP and the Righteous Indignation Project are organizing an interfaith voter registration drive alongside the LIST FAITH AND GRASSROOTS PARTNER GROUPS. The group will be canvassing in LOW-INCOME NEIGHBORHOOD to register low income voters, especially new citizens, and will stress the importance of political participation in advancing a social justice agenda common to all three faiths.

When: DAY, DATE, TIME
Why: In the face of the Religious Right, faith groups are coming together to voice that social justice and environmental responsibility are religious community priorities in the '08 election. This interfaith voter registration drive is part of a nationwide effort to bring together faith groups to stress the importance of social justice issues and political participation in this election season.
Event Schedule: [TAILOR AS APPROPRIATE]
- 2pm - Arrival at LOCATION, food
- 2:15pm - Welcome, the importance over elections in promoting social justice and environmental responsibility
- 2:20pm - Relationship building in small, interfaith groups, answering the question "What brought you here, and how does your religious tradition influence your interest and/or involvement in the 2008 election?"
- 2:50pm - Training in canvassing generally and voter registration specifically, guidance on diversity issues - how to enter the community not as saviors, but as solidarity partners, roleplay practice
- 3:15pm - Interfaith teams of 2-3 will head out with turf maps to canvass in LOW-INCOME NEIGHBORHOOD
- 5:15pm - Groups return to MEETING LOCATION, share stories in small, interfaith groups, share and recruit for upcoming election opportunities, tally and report on numbers and success
